Toshiba Strengthens Commitment to the Consumer Audio Market With the Introduction of TOSLINK(R) Optical Modules
IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Building on its market leadership
in the development of next-generation fiberoptic solutions for digital audio,
Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC)* today expanded its line-up
of TOSLINK® modules with the introduction of new transmitting and receiving
devices.
The new TOSLINK modules use optical interconnects to achieve
isolation and noise-free operation, enabling clear transmission of the audio
signal.
In addition, Toshiba's new modules offer the industry's highest rates
of transmission enabling Dolby Digital® Surround Sound and Sony DTS® in a
variety of applications including set-top boxes, DVD players, desktop and
portable computers, digital television, mini-disc players, audio and video
receivers, game consoles, and digital tuners. ``Audio quality for consumer electronic devices has greatly improved over
the past several years due to the advent of digital satellite systems and
digital cable, however consumers are still demanding better quality audio
solutions,'' said Brach Cox, business development manager, Optoelectronics
Devices for TAEC.
``With the introduction of the new TOSLINK optical
transmitting and receiving solutions, we are responding to those customer
requirements to create a higher quality audio solution for the consumer
electronics marketplace.'' Technical Features Toshiba's new TOTX141/TOTX141P and TOTX179/TOTX179P transmitting devices,
and the TORX141/TORX141P and TORX179/TORX179P receiving devices are available
in standard panel mount and mini-mount modules.
The new TOTX179S and TORX179S
transmitting and receiving devices are available in the middle mount package
module. The TOTX141/TOTX141P transmitter offers designers the highest transmission
rate currently available for digital audio applications, with a data rate of
direct current (DC) to 15 megabits per second (Mbps) NRZ, enabling up to
5.1 channels of clear digital audio which is required for Dolby Digital
Surround Sound, Sony DTS and other high-definition audio transmission formats.
In addition, the TOTX141/TOTX141P transmitter offers a nominal voltage of
3.0 volts (V).
The TORX141/TORX141P receiving module is highly sensitive and
has a data rate of 0.1 to 15Mbps with a nominal voltage of 3.0V.
The minimum
receivable power for the receiver is -27 decibels per meter (dBm). Toshiba's TOTX179/TOTX179P and TOTX179S transmitters have a high data rate
of DC to 12.8Mbps, surpassing most competitive solutions in the marketplace
and supporting Dolby Digital Surround Sound.
Like Toshiba's TOTX179
transmitters, the TORX179/TORX179P and TORX179S receiving modules have one of
the industry's highest data rates ranging from 0.1 to 12.8Mbps.
The
transmitting and receiving modules have a supply voltage of 4.75 to 5.25V.
